This site is a meeting of two things for me: a budding vexillology interest and a love for visual design guides.

I’ve always loved the Arizona flag and consider it one of the best designed. After a visit to the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia and seeing all of the state and territory flags hung together in a row, I was eager to learn more about their designs and histories.

Some states and their laws include more details than others. A lot is up to local governments’ interpretation. Even more has been lost to history.

The content of this site was gathered from official laws, state offices, historical societies, and vexillologists. Many emails were written, phone calls made, and documents reviewed. But of course there is information still missing.
